Legacy of Shoa Film Festival
Honorary Chairman Ben Kingsley:
„I wholeheartedly accept the role of Honorary Chairman. It is my privilege to be associated with such an important festival.“
As an associated activity of the Holocaust Era Assets Conference a two-day film festival for the general public (June 27-28, 2009) and a five-day program of movie screenings for schools (June 22-26, 2009) will take place in the Světozor Cinema (Vodičkova 41, Prague 1, http://www.kinosvetozor.cz) in the center of Prague. The festival will present a thematically coherent set of more than twenty Czech and foreign documentary and feature films about the Holocaust.
The screening for schools, organized in cooperation with People in Need, will feature five documentaries about the Holocaust made by the reputable Czech documentarians: Helena Třeštíková (Hitler, Stalin and Me), Olga Sommerová (Seven Lights), Pavel Štingl (Bad Dream), Lukáš Přibyl (Forgotten Transports to Belarus), Břetislav Rychlík (Oh, You Black Bird).
The festival for the general public will present both older and new movies about the Holocaust (Distant Journey, The Shop on Main Street, Defiance, Prisoner of Paradise). Documentary features will include “Voices of Children” by Zuzana Justman, “Children of the Night” by Marion Wiesel or “The Visitor from a Living” by Claude Lanzmann. Several debates with the authors of the movies and the Holocaust survivors will be held after the screenings. The program will also include a special event dedicated to the renowned author Lenka Reinerová (1916-2008).
The participants of the conference can collect two free tickets for any movie at the Světozor box office (Vodičkova 41, Prague 1). Due to the limited capacity, please collect the tickets at least 30 minutes before the screening. Please use your conference badge as an identification.
